Musical NotesAugust 2003From the Desk of Marjorie HochbergLES YEUX NOIRS to Perform at Temple Emanu-El Among the many cultural and educational events offered at Temple Emanu- El this fall, our Les Yeux Noirs concert is definitely not to be missed! Saturday, August 30th , at 7:30 pm, the acclaimed musical group performs at Temple Emanu-El to formally launch the Temple's new young adult focus group, Emanu-El L.I.T.E. Co-sponsored by The Jewish Federation's Young Jewish Tucson (YJT), this concert promises to be an unforgettable musical experience. With musical influences from France, Romania, Hungary, Russia and Armenia, the musical group Les Yeux Noirs (The Black Eyes) has exploded onto the World Music scene. Based in Paris, the musicians of Les Yeux Noirs play an eclectic variety of instruments ranging from the cello to accordion to electric guitar with unselfconscious virtuosity, fusing sultry Roma/Gypsy musical traditions with equally passionate Eastern European Jewish musical themes. Said Sita Holroyd in her review in The Bangkok Post, "In today's terminology, Les Yeux Noirs should have been the boyband of a lost era - eight of them, all performing, dancing, singing, powerhouses of entertainment, guaranteed to get the girls screaming and the masses on their feet." The Les Yeux Noirs concert is open to all.
