Thoughts to Nosh OnMay 2007From the Desk of Rabbi SharffThe history of interfaith dialogues though its origins
dates back to the beginnings of the twentieth century, is actually a fairly
recent phenomenon. Interfaith
conversations really began to pick up steam in the 1960's, and have been a
significant part of the religious world ever since.
To this end, Some of these groups are designed to bring a diverse
religious community together with goals of bringing justice, equality, and
humanity to the greater The other underlying theme is to gain understanding of other religions and religious ideas. It is all part of a greater desire to comprehend what motivates our religious brethren, and to educate them in the beauty and complexities of our heritage and tradition. Part of this effort has involved visitors to our wonderful congregation including students, parents, and congregants of other faith traditions. In order to accomplish this goal, we have and continue to participate in worship exchanges whereby we welcome in visitors and visit other communities as well. We have recently done this both with Christ Presbyterian as well as with St. Phillip's in the Hills. This Rabbi Ben Sharff |
